Curing a Sauna
Once you have purchased and assembled your sauna, it is ready to be cured. It is important to cure your sauna before your first use as this will burn off all the impurities in the stove and allow the building materials to adjust to the heat and humidity.
The following steps will help you properly cure your sauna:
- Clean up any garbage or debris that may be leftover from construction of the sauna.
- Sweep and vacuum the entire sauna room, including the corners, under the benches and even under the duckboard flooring. You don't want any leftover building materials to heat up and pollute the sauna.
- Wipe the floor, walls, and ceiling with a soft, warm, wet rag.
- Rinse off the rocks that are to be placed on the stove.
- Open the door to the sauna and run the heater for approximately 45 minutes to burn off the protective coatings. Your heater may smoke during this process, but this can be expected so do not be alarmed.
- Close the door to the sauna and raise the temperature to 200 degrees Fahrenheit or 92 degrees Celsius. After four or five hours your sauna should be ready for the you enjoy.
